funimation really dropped the ball on them in the dub by using he/him as a gender neutral pronoun. i know it was 2008 and all but like they couldntve just looked up “gender neutral pronouns” it wouldtve been hard
reasons maka albarn is best protag: when approached with the “haha you cant fight me because the dwma made a promise” she goes “i dont give a fuck” and proceeds to kick medusas ass all the way to hell
So, Black*Star also undergoes a massive growth spurt, and his is more evident because he’s standing next to a much taller Tsubaki. Â
He begins the series here:Â
You’ll notice Tsubaki towers over him in the first image, from prologue 2, Black*Star’s first appearance.  Then, in the second image, from the actual first issue, it is clear that Black*Star is equal in height with Soul and Maka.  Tsubaki towers over them all.
Then cut to just after the Salvage arc. Â Black*Star and Tsubaki are out jogging. Â Black*Star is now equal height with his weapon, if not a little taller.
So, Black*Star has finally become the big star he always said he was!
Although, wait—
This is from the very end of the series, and Maka, Kid, and Black*Star are all the same height.  So clearly, Maka also grew.  You just can’t tell because she’s always standing next to her ridiculously tall boyfriend weapon.
How do we know he’s taller?
Oh, yeah, this:
That’s right, folks.  Our favorite scythe is towering over Kid even slouching.  Who is the same height as Black*Star and Maka.
Sorry, Black*Star.  You can’t always be the “biggest” Star.
Hmm, but to me it actually looks like Tsubaki is still taller.
Both of them are a bit slouched over, but she looks a tad more curved, and he has a lot of height in his hair, whereas hers in a ponytail is perfectly flush to her head.
And while I agree that it does seem that Soul is now quite tall, I’m fairly certain that he is also a lot closer in that image with him and Kid. Based on the stairs behind them, Soul is “closer” to the viewer than is Kid and thus appears to have more of an advantage on Kid than he might really.
