I just love Ed and Pinako so much, their little mini arc was great, give me the forbidden granny content

ruinsofxerxes:

I KNOOOoooOWWW I LOVE PINAKO SO MUCH SHE IS THE UNSUNG HERO OF FMA.

I love this mini arc between her and ed, especially this little scene before they go out to dig up that thing. Ed is scared and he needs help with this and he asks Pinako, and she just knows something is wrong just by looking at him, and she’s so caring and worried about him! She just knows when something is bothering ed

I mean, Pinako has seen and gone through so much, and she just……..fucken takes it all in stride. She don’t give a FUCK anymore. Her old drinking buddy is actually a 400 year old immortal? Oh ok, doesn’t question it or ever mention it again. Said friend tells her something bad is going to happen and she needs to leave the country? Eh, something’s always going wrong, she needs to be here for her family. Her pseudo-grandsons commit the ultimate taboo? Gotta hide the body for them.

i MEAN….SHE’S SO INCREDIBLE AND BADASS AND STRONG. She allowed Ed, an eleven year old, to go through the pain of automail surgery, and comforted him when he was upset about Al. She yelled at roy and told him he wasn’t welcome when he burst into their house looking for ed and al. She let Winry at 15 years old get an internship across the country because he knew she was capable and determined. She’s always been a badass, no WONDER Winry is so incredible, LOOK WHO RAISED HER

apronfeud:

Of all the many wonderful, complex characters in Fullmetal Alchemist, I find that Izumi Curtis is one of the most nuanced and original, both within the series and in the shounen manga field. In a genre full of dead mothers and overbearing harpies, Izumi stands apart as a physically and magically talented fighter who is also an “ordinary housewife”; she has, most unusually for a shounen manga female character, survived not only childbirth but also an horrific, failed attempt to resurrect her dead baby.

image

She is chastened but not broken by the experience. Izumi is the only female alchemist within the series to have seen “the Truth.” Her payment is highly gendered – I take “my organs” (or “some of my insides,” as another scanslation group renders it) to mean her womb and ovaries. And she is the only character whose payment is neither returned nor compensated for with automail or a surrogate body*.

I think it is so gutsy (no pun intended) of Arakawa to have Izumi remain in this state. It feels so radical to see a woman whose worth extends far beyond her ability to give birth. Who lost a child but still finds meaning in her family, work, and community. Who has a fulfilling life but still mourns for and thinks about her lost baby, even after her guilt is assuaged. In another author’s hands, Izumi would be long dead, a woman with no value beyond her womb, existing only to provide fodder for another character’s development. Or she would be a villain, a broken woman madly hungering for what she cannot have. Or she would have her organs restored, and be shown pregnant or holding a newborn at the series end. Instead, Arakawa gives us a female character who is both happy and wanting, powerful and poignant, and presents those dualities as valid, inseparable aspects of a whole.

*Within the context of the FMA universe, adoption is shown as an option, but one which the Curtises appear not to have pursued. Surrogate pregnancy, I believe, is not discussed within the series.

al being just as much of a snarky asshole as ed is so valid and i want to personally thank u for reminding me how hilarious he is

teamalphonse:

considering one of my favorite things about Alphonse is that he’s a snarky asshole, I am so delighted I could remind you of the truth

there’s no denying Al is a sweet, sweet boy who is very polite and well-mannered and MUCH more considerate than his brother, but he’s still an ass

he spends most of the manga (lovingly) insulting/teasing his brother

“a fighting idiot” omg al

ok but real talk how often does he describe ed as the “little/small alchemist” when he isn’t there to yell about it?

other top-tier Asshole Alphonse moments include:

  • that time when the chimeras tried to kidnap him and he was like “you’re right, I should think for myself!” all innocently and then just punched Dolcetto in the face
  • that time he found out Ling was a prince and literally fell over laughing
  • that time he completely tore apart Ed’s dumb plan about luring the homunculi out by having Scar attack him
  • that one time Mei said he looked like his brother and he got SO OFFENDED and started listing off ways he was sO MUCH BETTER AND HANDSOMER than Ed
  • that time he tricked Pride and was sO DAMN SMUG ABOUT it and sat there insulting him (Pride! The oldest and most dangerous homunculi!) for falling for it
  • that time he tricked Pride AGAIN and was really smug about it A SECOND TIME
  • and then a third time
image

bitch, you tHOUGHT

  • when he throws Yoki under the bus twice in like two minutes
image
  • after Hohenheim told him his life story and asked if Al believed him, Al was like “I haven’t seen you in like 10 years and that whole story was ridiculous”
  • that one time he straight up yelled at Izumi, which just amuses me because it’s IZUMI and it’s Al screaming, not Ed

and lastly, of course, this utterly iconic moment

alphonse is a very good, kind boy who is also incredibly like his brother, no matter how much he tries to act like he isn’t

One of the most hilarious aspects of FMA:B is just how the finale plays out.

like the protags get split (roughly) into Team Mustang and Team Ed Team Greed.

Team Mustang, in preparation for the Promised Day, has consolidated power across the entirety of Amestris and organized a secret coup led by the Briggs forces covertly smuggled into Central. They then successfully take out the entirety of the High Command, and take command of the radio in such a way that they smoothly and secretively dictate all information released to the public which shuffles all blame onto the High Command and Briggs, away from Mustang, leaving Mustang’s hands clean and ripe for Fuhrer-dom, like the goddamn fucking pros they are

…and Team Greed has….um….hmmm…they sure did Show Up. Greed went somewhere. But I mean. …Ed definitely got into Central. He just……. Yeah he had no plan. None of those 4 (5?) idiots had any kind of plan in the months leading up to this. They were hiding in a basement. Stellar. Illustrious. Our Protagonist, everyone. The Prodigy. The Smartest state alchemist Amestris has seen. Hiding in a basement at home. Pretending to be dead.

Like Thank Fucking God for Mustang because FMA was never going to shape up into one of those “plucky young protag kid somehow outsmarts the whole Big Bad Organization” no Ed’s dumb as a doornail and would have gotten stomped into the ground if he didnt have An Experienced Strategic Adult With Uncountable Connections and Vast Knowledge of Military Procedure on his side.

Not to mention Alphonse, Marco, Heinkle, and Yoki pretty much missed the entirety of the Promis Day (Well, Al only missed half), because they couldn’t drive a goddamn CAR to Central without crashing it multiple times
