Lionsgate CEO John Feltheimer delivered an update on the delay of the first movie in the trilogy Chaos Walking
’‘On the film side Chaos is not in March. We’re actually been waiting for our two lead starts to finish the photography with them which will happen in February.“
So it’s not wrapping filming til the end of February. Standard 10 week post-production gets us to May 10th, more or less. Add another month of post, at least, b/c this is an effects heavy blockbuster with lots of CGI, and we’re at June 10th for the movie even being finished, at the absolute earliest. Which means – considering all the steps between finished and released – a christmas 2019 release is probably the earliest we can hope for.
To add: Originally filming was going to wrap in November 2017 for a release date of March 2019. That’s 15 months. So depending on how heavy these reshoots are, and how much previous post-pro work they invalidate, we could be in for a long wait.

Chaos Walking will be the most wanted film of 2019
The producers of the 2019 movie Chaos Walking, Megan Ellison, Nina Jacobson, and Gale Anne Hurd said the production of Chaos Walking had began in Vancouver, Canada by February 2017, a few months after Cal Arnold and Emmie Ragan had joined the cast as young Todd Hewitt and young Viola Eade. In March 2017, Miles Rich and Daniel Turok joined the cast of Chaos Walking as the younger versions of Dave Prentiss and Dave Prentiss junior. The filming had moved to Montreal, Scotland, Iceland and London for the additional locations serving as the locations of the New World. The film will dedicated its memory to Allison Shearmur, who died unexpectedly in January 2018, one month after the filming of Chaos Walking had ended. Doug Liman released their statement in February 2018, “Allison Shearmur was a great-great person who produced many TV shows and movies such as Rogue One and The Hunger Games.”. The film will be produced by ImageMovers, Annapurna Pictures and Valhalla Entertainment, and it will be distributed by Lionsgate.
Adapted from the critically acclaimed book series of the same name by lesser known British-American author Patrick Ness, who also wrote the film adaptation of A Monster Calls in 2016, Chaos Walking tells about a young man named Todd Hewitt, who escaped ungracefully from the outbreak of the viral germ to form their own superpowers called “The Noise”. Meanwhile, Hewitt meets a young woman named Viola Eade, who without the Noise and she unlocks many secrets behind the New World. Todd and Viola must unite together to save the New World against the cruel mayor of Prentisstown, Dave Prentiss.
